GAP YEAR PROGRAM
For Students Graduating High School In Spring 2024
And Entering College In Fall 2025
Come to Southwest Iowa and spend a year on the farm, learning how to raise your own food, praying together, discussing the greatest works in Western literature, and perhaps even training for a trade, all under the guidance of a confessional Lutheran pastor and his family.
Agricultural Experience
- Permaculture gardening, food preparation, preservation techniques
- Pastured chickens for eggs and meat
- Rotational grazing management for cattle
- Fruit guilds
- Water collection
- And more!
Classical Education
- Seminar classes taught by Pastor Maronde
- Dante’s Divine Comedy
- Milton’s Paradise Lost
- Shakespeare’s Tragedies (Othello, King Lear, Hamlet)
Vocational Training

Students encouraged to have
an additional pursuit -
Learn a trade at Tarkio Tech
College, including: Welding, Plumbing, Health, HVAC Installation, Computer, Business, Electrical, Manufacturing -
Work or apprentice locally

Take on a special LIRA project
2024-2025 Gap Year Program
Daily prayer, morning and evening, will be provided on site. Sunday Divine Service at one of Pastor Maronde’s congregations (St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hastings, Iowa, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Oakland, Iowa).
Housing will be provided at the Lutheran Institute of Regenerative Agriculture (Rent $250 per month plus $50 per month utilities) (Scholarships may be available). Housing is limited.
Cooking and food storage facilities will be provided; students are responsible for food and meal preparation.
The Gap Year program begins on September 1st, 2024 and concludes on May 15th, 2025.
